Global coastal attenuation of wind-waves observed with radar altimetry

چکیده

Abstract Coastal studies of wave climate and evaluations energy resources are mainly regional based on the use computationally very expensive models or a network in-situ data. Considering significant height, satellite radar altimetry provides an established global relatively long-term source, whose coastal data nevertheless typically flagged as unreliable within 30 km coast. This study exploits reprocessing signals with dedicated fitting algorithm to retrieve several years height records in zone. We show variations annual cycle amplitudes mean state last from coastline compared offshore, areas that were up now not observable standard altimetry. Consequently, decrease average flux is observed. Globally, we found at 3 off coast 22% smaller than amplitude reduced by 14% loses 38% its offshore value.

Sensitivity Analysis of Brown Model Waveform in Radar Altimetry

In satellite altimetry (radar altimetry), the altimeter emits a pulse, with known power, to the earth surface and receives it back continuously to determine of the sea surface height. The time series of the mean returned power is recorded individually at satellite as the so-called waveform. Analytical model for the waveform is first introduced by Brown, which consists of six parameters: signif...

Wind Turbine Clutter Mitigation in Coastal UHF Radar

Coastal UHF radar provides a unique capability to measure the sea surface dynamic parameters and detect small moving targets, by exploiting the low energy loss of electromagnetic waves propagating along the salty and good conducting ocean surface. It could compensate the blind zone of HF surface wave radar at close range and reach further distance than microwave radars. However, its performance...

Basic Radar Altimetry Toolbox & Tutorial

The Basic Radar Altimetry Toolbox is a collection of tools, tutorials and documents designed to facilitate the use of radar altimetry data. It is able to read most distributed radar altimetry data, from ERS-1 & 2, Topex/Poseidon, Geosat Follow-on, Jason-1 and 2, Envisat, and the future Cryosat mission, to perform some processing, data editing and statistic, and to visualise the results. As part...

Pc3–4 ULF waves observed by the SuperDARN TIGER radar

Despite extensive research, the mechanisms for propagation of Pc3–4 energy from the generation region at the bow shock to the high-latitude ionosphere remain unresolved. We used high temporal (6–12 s) and spatial (45 km) resolution data from the SuperDARN TIGER radar (Tasmania) to examine Pc3–4 wave signatures at the F-region heights. We focus on a case study on 28 September 2000, when large-am...

Jovian Decameter Emissions Observed by the Wind/waves Radioastronomy Experiment

The WAVES radio astronomy experiment aboard the Wind spacecraft covers the frequency range from 1 MHz to 13.8 MHz with spectral resolution six times better than that of the Voyager PRA experiment. By combining Wind/WAVES observations with simultaneous observations made by the Nançay Decametric Array (France) between 10 and 40 MHz, the entire frequency spectrum of the jovian decametric emission ...
